This cow was one of the stars of the 1998 Cow’s On Parade in Chicago, America’s first group public art project of this nature. They spawned a phenomenon that is still appearing in cities across the nation. It took me over 300 hours to complete. By the time I was done, my hands were sliced up, swollen and throbbing. The work was worth the result. It originally appeared outside of the Renaissance Hotel off Wacker.
After some time, and with advice from Sothebey’s I bought the cow back from the hotel, only to turn around and sell it to a famous NFL commentator and former coach.
I have also included some images of the project in process. It gives a nice glimpse into what it takes to make a piece of this scale.
Would do it again in a heart beat. And I do have fabricators who can supply me with durable heavy duty fiber glass animals when I need them.
